Education projects Schools and Higher Education Buildings
Designed in a contemporary style and described as the planning officer as “a landmark building”. The 70 room complex is divided between two buildings and includes a gym and squash court. Several rooms are designed to be used by sensory or mobility impared users. The facilities were also designed to cater for the conference market and each room has en-suite facilities constructed as pre-fabricated pods to ensure quality of construction.
Also in a contemporary style, constructed in stack-bonded brickwork, the boys’ junior boarding house was designed so that the internal layout could be later converted to a girls’ senior boarding house. The new boarding house includes "pods" of bedrooms arranged with shared washrooms on the first floor, and on the ground floor, a sports changing room, common room, quiet room and two homework rooms. There are further ancillary spaces including students' kitchens and additional washrooms. There is an attached two-storey house-master's house. Landscaping is a key part of the project, and in addition, the setting of the house on the edge of the school complex on a highly visible site in open countryside, was carefully managed in planning terms, with detailed pre-application consultations with the local authority.
