Landscaping

Landscaping, Watlington

Landscaping, Watlington, Oxfordshire

A contemporary hard and soft landscaping scheme for this listed building arranged around two mature clipped box trees.

The scheme utilises a simple palate of quality materials including fine-grained charcoal granite paving, blue-grey clay paviors, 20mm limestone gravels, stainless steel accessories, and European oak sleeper walls.

The granite is used in the lower part of the garden to form the main paved terrace with retaining walls in oak at the change in level between two areas of the garden, and the upper level consists of a circular lawn enclosed on 3/5 of the circumference by a radial brick path.

The planting scheme includes traditional cottage plants such as hollyhocks and French lavender with espaliered fruit trees, a fern garden and the existing clipped box trees to create a simple and calming space which complements both the contemporary landscaping and the architecture of the original house.
