Refurbishment of Watlington Recreation Ground, Oxfordshire This community-lead project will regenerate the town's recreation ground, creating a new social hub within the Town. Construction is due to be completed in time for Summer 2009. The scheme has been designed to truly cater for all ages and abilities, incorporating a new play area which will form the “heart” of the recreation ground, and will integrate other areas, including a new kick-about pitch, a basketball court and the existing skate facilities. We have also included a trim-trail located around the perimeter of the site. Primarily, this will encourage a healthy lifestyle and out-door exercise for adult users. However, it wall also extend the hours that the ground is used, minimising anti-social behaviour locally. We were involved with a comprehensive community consultation with: Local adults, the two local schools, and the youth club. We helped the Parish Council to compile a brief based on the results of the consultation. We then designed the scheme, including an enabling works package and new landscaping, and worked with three play equipment manufacturers to design the play area portion of the scheme We have compiled the necessary documentation required to submit funding applications to both local sources of funding (District Council, local trusts) and national sources, including the Big Lottery (Awards For All and Playful Ideas). Our application documents to one organization are now used to demonstrate a model application. Currently, the main source of funding from the Local Authority has been won. Our client is awaiting the outcome of other, smaller bids, and must raise further local funds, however, this exciting community project is well on the way to becoming a reality. |
